If you want to be a great communicator, do you need to have a great vocabulary?

You might be surprised to learn that a really big vocabulary is not necessary in order to express yourself clearly and to move others with your words.

Some of the most dramatic messages that have ever been uttered in the English language actually used very simple words to stir the blood, or touch the heart.

Look at any well-known passage in the Bible. Chances are that the passage does not rely on sophisticated words to create its power.

Think of Lincoln’s Gettysberg Address. Although President Lincoln spoke in a style that is very different from the way we usually speak today, his words still have the power to move us deeply with their clarity and their deep emotion. During the darkest days of World War II, Winston Churchill’s rousing speeches to the British people used very simple, common, powerful words to successfully ignite the courage and determination of his people.

So if it’s possible to communicate effectively without using a lot of very big words, why should we bother to try to expand our vocabulary? The reason is that learning new words expands our understanding and improves our “mental muscles”. Every new word we learn entices our mind to stretch into new areas.

When we have a larger bank of words to draw on, we improve our ability to think and express ourselves. Our thinking will become more fluid and supple, and we will understand more of the world around us and within us, when we have a larger vocabulary. In the modern world the ability to use words effectively is often highly rewarded.

The English language has an enormous number of words, perhaps more than half a million of them. Most people however, use a vocabulary of just a few thousand common words on a daily basis. It is possible to get by in the English language with a limited number of words, but you expand your options as you expand your vocabulary. When you understand very few words, you are limited in your ability to learn new information.

If you want to increase your vocabulary, there are many approaches you can use. One good way is to read books or articles that are slightly more difficult than what you are accustomed to. When you come across a word you don’t know, see if you can figure out its meaning from the context. Look at the way the word is made up, with its letters and syllables. Does it remind you of any words you already know? What parts of it are familiar?

Many words in the English language are made up of common roots they share with other words. You may be able to deduce the meaning of the new word from the way the syllables are put together and the way it is used. You should consult a dictionary to be sure.

If you come across a word you don’t understand during the course of a lecture or a conversation, you can ask someone to explain the meaning of the word. Many people are reluctant to do this because they are afraid of exposing their ignorance by asking.

It is occasionally true that other people may choose to look down on you if you confess that you don’t understand a certain word. On the other hand, they may be happy to teach you something new. If you decide you don’t want to ask anyone else for the meaning of words you don’t know, be sure to make a note of those new words and look them up later.

Should you try to learn new words directly from a dictionary? It depends on your learning style and your preference. Some people will become bored very quickly while reading a dictionary, while others will find it fascinating.

All dictionaries are not alike, and you may find a certain version far more useful than the rest. Good dictionaries will do more than just give a definition of a word. Some will show you an example of the word used in a sentence. Often they will show you alternate spellings, and give the plural forms of nouns and the past tense of verbs. Most dictionaries will show you correct pronunciation. Some will tell you the historical derivation of the word. Many English words have their roots in ancient Anglo-Saxon, French, or German.

Language is always evolving and new words are being created every day. New words can come from technology, from scientific discoveries, from other languages, from pop culture, and from the streets.

When learning new vocabulary, you can better integrate it into your brain if you actively involve yourself in the learning process.

When you encounter a new word, write out a definition of it in your own words, and write one or more sentences using the new word in context. Visualize the word in its printed form. Say the word out loud, and spell it out loud. Say a sentence out loud that uses the new word. Make up an image in your mind that will help you remember the word. If you make the image funny or bizarre, you will probably remember it better.

To improve your use of language and your ability to think, practice summarizing the theme of an entire article or book using just one or two paragraphs. After you have read an article or book, try writing out two different versions summarizing your ideas. Do one version using very simple, everyday words. Make it as clear and simple as you possibly can while still maintaining accuracy. Do another version that uses very complex sentences and advanced vocabulary, like you imagine a university professor might write.

This will give your brain a good work-out and increase your verbal and mental flexibility.

If you are committed to expanding your vocabulary, how many new words should you try to learn in a day? It’s up to you. Just two new words a day will add up to more than 7000 words in ten years. Ten words a day would add 36,000 words in ten years.

Once you have learned a lot of new words, should you work them into your conversation every chance you get? The kind of vocabulary you use should always be appropriate to the context in which you are writing or speaking. For example, if you are speaking to a group of high school dropouts you may want to use different words than if you are speaking to a group of scientists.

Don’t use an impressive vocabulary merely as a means of showing off, always using big words when small ones would do. People can often intuitively feel when you are using fancy words merely for effect, and not because you need them to communicate.

But if your new vocabulary really has become a part of you and has a useful place in your writing and conversation, by all means, go ahead and use it!
In fact the workplace is where the attention to the waste is much lower if compared with the attention that we have at home and in other places.
Paper, printing, cartridges, toner is all used in great quantities in every office, skipping particular attention to energy saving and avoid unnecessary waste. Yet it takes very few gestures few small daily cares to make the office a nice place to spend the day and where respect and protect the environment in all its forms.

Very important is the use of recycled paper that has now reached such a point of technology applied to have very few differences from the paper normally used for printing and document production. In addition, many corporate email for some time have included at the bottom of the so-called "ecological message" to give notice to print only if the mail is really indispensable to the work and we need a paper copy. In addition, the introduction of certified electronic mail, even in public institutions made it possible to considerably reduce the amount of paper needed to individual activities such as office paper for copying.

Many other techniques are then used for energy saving such as restriction of printers, many companies are now to be a floor rather than a per-seat, dining areas a holding company instead of several and many other small details which will collect the their success in the consumer sector.

It can happen in some cases products from the recycling has a higher cost, but this occurrence is quite rare now because some companies have revised the technologies to obtain high-quality products with a price almost equal to that of the product from by new cells. Also use products from recycling or processing from a label is also good for the welfare of workers in the office spend more than forty hours a week and limiting contact with harmful substances and promoting the mental well being.

If in the case of the office with the direct collaboration of workers and steady you can get excellent results on all fronts is more difficult to reconcile with the industrial activity and the sustainability of the ecology. In fact in the paper is mainly used for packaging, which makes it more difficult to use the limit in the sense that while an email can be printed or not to send or carry an appliance apart from its absolutely cannot on it. Now, however, technological change has allowed the paper to get the production resistant and reusable wrapping paper that have nothing to envy to the new boxes every time.

But there are some features that the paper in general must answer. First, a paper label shall be defined to meet certain particular requirements or to be made with a low intake of water is a limited power consumption, low emissions and water than in air but also to give birth to the paper label is required to be used only as waste paper.
Currently, this in fact turns out to be the most environmentally friendly and more environmentally friendly to produce paper, but it is certain that research in this area is evolving and growing to develop solutions which could help to reduce emissions to a minimum emission but also to limit the use of paper where it is not strictly necessary.

Power system protection is one of the branches of electrical power engineering. This system copes with electrical power systems that are faulted by the separation of faulted fractions from the rest of the electrical network. The main purpose of protection scheme is only to maintain the power system constant in order to separate only the factors that are under fault. Generally, five components are included in Protection systems i.e. Current and voltage transformers for stepping down high voltages, Batteries for supplying power in system, Communication channels, Protective relays and Circuit breakers.

Power protection is necessary for those industries, which deals with power supply. Special challenges unique to the plant engineer or industrial facilities manager are also included in Power protection. Some form of electrical device is relied by most of the companies in order to carry out their daily activities. Some of the people think that Uninterpretable Power Supply is only needed while the main supplies fails to perform its task, but that is not true. It is used to protect our equipments from the situation such as surges, brown outs and other fluctuations in power.

Using Power system protection is the most essential for sensitive devices like Telecoms equipment and networking equipment such as routers and switches. A clean and constant supply of power is must required to all these equipments with an intention to operate properly. An immense layer of power protection is also offered by an Uninterpretable Power Supply to make sure when the power fails, your systems don't. Mostly, one can find Power protection in two types such as Line interactive UPS and Parallel UPS power system. Line interactive UPS is probably used to protect important data which can be failed because of malfunction generated by the utility.

While Parallel UPS power system is needed where multiple rows of server cabinets are set up constantly. In this system, the inverter is put up on line and doesn’t require switching action. A huge resilience is provided by the use of parallel system with an intention to the utility mains supply loss. So, if your device fails to supply power in good manner and you don’t have enough cash to replace it then UPS is one of the best options for your problem. Before purchasing Power system protection, it is advisable to you to conclude the quantity of outlets which you require as uninterpretable power supply systems. So, shop the best UPS and make your business safe.

World Bank chief Robert Zoellick warned Saturday that the global economy is heading into a new "danger zone", as growth slows and investor confidence weakens, and noted that near record-high food prices and volatile commodity markets are threatening the most world's vulnerable people. Events in the past few weeks in Europe and the United States already have had an adverse impact, and could signal even bigger problems ahead. Several European nations continue to struggle with high debt, slow economies and other issues, while U.S. politicians went to the wire before they raised its debt ceiling -- only to see credit agencies downgrade its credit rating, and stock markets flounder. This reflects growing sentiment that years after the start of a major recession conditions could continue to deteriorate.

The Horn of Africa is the most affected by high food price levels. The emergency in the Horn of Africa was triggered by prolonged droughts, while food prices that are near record high levels seen in 2008, also contributed to the situation. World Bank Group's Food Price Watch warns that global food stocks remain low, and potential volatility in the prices of sugar, rice, and petroleum products could have unexpected effects on food prices in the months ahead. Zoellick said that the World Bank is stepping up to address this crisis with a sense of urgency.

The international economy may be on the brink of danger because of huge debts, slow growth and low investors' confidence. The World Bank chief urged Europe and the United States to tackle their debt problems and China to accelerate its structural reforms as it seeks to develop from an export-driven economy towards a growth model more reliant on domestic consumption. The international financial crunch in Europe has become a matter of sovereign debt crisis which entails hazardous ramifications for the monetary federation. The United States of America shall have to control its debts and expenditures and reform its tax system in order to boost the private sector's growth. The World Bank in July reclassified China as an upper middle income economy, putting it in a group of nations that he said needed to move on from the growth models they relied on while they were poor.

China is "well positioned" to become a "high-income" nation in the next 15 to 20 years, from its status as an "upper-middle income" country now, the question is whether China can avoid the "middle income trap", where national productivity and income growth stalls after per capita income hits $3,000 to $6,000. Although China is the world's second-largest economy, its per capita gross national income stands at just $4,260, World Bank data showed, less than a tenth of the $47,140 seen in the United States. Critics have long said China relies too much on heavy investment and exports to drive its economy, and should encourage domestic consumption. For Chinese consumption to take off, analysts say China needs to cut income taxes, improve healthcare services and labor mobility, and reduce Beijing's share of national income by raising dividend payouts from state firms, among other measures. [Matt Richardson] I don’t know about you, but I’m a little sick of hearing about the same people on TV over and over again. I came up with this Arduino-based solution to mute my TV so that I don’t have to hear about Donald Trump’s feud with whomever or Charlie Sheen’s most recent rant. Using the Video Experimenter Shield, the Arduino is able to decode the closed captioning transcription track, which is transmitted along with the NTSC picture signal. The incoming text is processed for a set of keywords such as “KARDASHIAN” or “SNOOKI” and sends my television’s IR remote control mute command, muting the TV for 30 seconds and then unmuting it (as long as a keyword isn’t mentioned again). There are times when even the closest of friends experience a rift in their friendship. A rift can be caused by the misunderstanding of a situation. To bring the closeness back into the friendship, understanding of where it went wrong and saying sorry can bring the relationship back on track.

Distress

You have personal opinions and emotions and so do your friends. Even though you may spend a lot of time together doesn't mean that they know every thought and feeling or decision that you have or make. Most misunderstandings come about because of information that has not been shared.

Understanding the issue

You can't begin to make things right if you have not been told what the problem is. Real friends don't yell at their friends when misunderstandings happen. If boundaries have been crossed then either the boundary was not known or not considered a priority.

Saying sorry

A genuine apology comes from the heart and includes making any damage right. Taking responsibility for what you have done is a mature and responsible way to conduct yourself. If the issue involved saying something to your friends boy/girlfriend then this may need very delicate attention to put right. If the person you are apologising to does not want to hear it then wait until they have calmed down. This may be minutes, hours, days or even months depending on how angry they are.

Awareness

Consider carefully what it is that you are apologising for. Giving a generic apology and continuously repeating it has no meaning. You are apologising for causing distress or loss depending on the situation. The apology is not to get you off the hook. The apology is addressed to that part in your friend that is hurting and is in disharmony. Balance needs to be restored. Your friend may not have known how deeply they felt about this issue until someone else interfered.

Longevity

True reliable friends are hard to find. When things are upset between you the question of trust is raised. Having the understanding and maturity to say sorry goes a long way to restoring trust. Be the kind of friend that can recognise when issues have arisen and address them immediately. The faster the matter is restored to harmony the shorter the damage time.

When reflecting on years that have gone by and you can admit to your part in certain events that changed the status of your friendships it is never to late to say sorry and take responsibility for your roll in the event. It may be too late to make things right as the people concerned have moved on. If you have apologised then you have done your part in restoring balance.

Psychologists define behaviour as an organism's response to internal or external stimulation. This definition shows that before behaviour is emitted there must be stimulation, then the responses to the stimulation is the behaviour. The main focus here is not about stimulation but about what determines how we respond to such stimulation.

A good observer will notice that he/she behaves differently from others. Somebody may slap you and you walk away but when he slaps another the person fight ensues. This is just one in a million examples of how we respond differently to the same stimulus. Then you begin to wonder why is it so? Why can't everybody behave the same way?

The first explanation to this is the theory of individual differences. This stipulates that no two persons are the same. It may sound weird but it is true. Starting from physical attributes; no two persons have the same finger prints. In behavioural attributes no two persons behave the same way, even homogeneous twins. Different twin studies have proven it beyond every reasonable doubt. These differences are mainly caused by two factors, namely; nature (heredity) and nurture (environment/experience). The genetic make up of an individual serves as the behavioural blueprints. It lays the foundation of the individual's behaviour. There is little or no control over this because it's congenital. The second factor which is nurture is our experiences from the environment. This is a very vital determinant of behaviour. When a child is born, it is exposed to the environment. As he/she grows up they get integrated into the norms and values of the society through the process of socialization. These include learning from the family, peers, schools, churches etc. All these agents of socialization shape the behaviour of the child. There is still an ongoing controversy among experts in Psychology on which contributes more to the formation of behaviour between nature and nurture, but that is not our focus here.

Having explained the building blocks of behaviour, it is now due to relate it to interpersonal relationships. Over 6 billion people in the world today behave differently. The above analogy on the determinants of behaviour has established to some extent why we behave differently. In interpersonal relationship, there are series of conflicts and misunderstandings between couples, brothers, sisters, friends, associates, countries etc. These conflicts arise because we misunderstand one another. We always expect others to behave like us or behave as we expect. Couples that have lived together for many years wake up one day and divorce. Brothers all of a sudden became sworn enemies. Countries that have existed mutually hitherto, began to wage war against one another. These are caused by expecting others to change for us and getting frustrated or even if they don't.

We cannot be the same. Psychology has given us the reason why we cannot behave alike. There is no way people who live together can have the same life style. Not because you don't drink or smoke, therefore anybody who smokes or drinks is a fool or an enemy. Note that because we have different genes and experiences your likes or dislikes can never be another person's likes or dislikes. When we begin to understand this, then we will have no problem relating with others. This is not to say that people are free to commit crime or engage in other evil activities because nature or nurture made them so. That notwithstanding, that is why I have never been an advocate of capital punishment.

Serious offenders can still be useful through the process of sublimation. This a defense mechanism used to channeled a person with aggressive behaviour into appropriate area where such behaviour will be an asset or socially acceptable. For instance, the famous boxer Mike Tyson was a street nuisance but when he became a boxer, he used his aggressive nature to achieve a great fit in boxing. Imagine the level of patriotism and dedication a suicide bomber will exhibit if his orientation is changed and he becomes a soldier. It is noteworthy that the process of sublimation requires the services of experts in the field to make it effective.

Once we understand that we are different from others. Our wives, sisters, brothers, friends, neighbours etc. cannot always do what like; then we will stop having problems with them. We should not be expecting others to change for us. We have to accept them the way they are. [Source]
