-- On the last day of October 2011, the U.N. says the world population will hit seven billion people -- an increase of one billion since 1999.

To show some of the impacts of this vast human upheaval, Canadian anthropologist Felix Pharand has created a series of visualizations mapping the presence of technology onto a selection of satellite images showing the Earth from space.

U.N.: World can 'thrive' as population reaches 7 billion

Using data from a range of sources, including the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the World Meteorological Organization, the images depict a sprawl of air traffic routes, the underwater cables that carry the internet, road and rail networks, pipelines, shipping lanes and electricity transmission lines........ Signifying gender clash, members of both sexes, especially when in the comfort of unisex gatherings, have expressed deficiencies in the opposite sex. ‘You know what men are like’ and ‘you know what women are like’ are the usual comments. In today’s real competitive world, the question asked above has become more important.

History, unfortunately, has not been kind to women. They were suppressed, almost in every culture- at least, over the last 2000-3000 yrs. They were said to be less intelligent, passive, emotional and much more. Not only men, even women thought that those assertions were gospel truths. They hardly ever protested. It became a way of life. As a concept, it fitted very well in the making of a stable society, where men worked outside and women worked at home.

As if they were locked at home, women were neither accessible for study nor were known properly. Not only the lay, even poets, who gave direction to the society, openly said that women were a mystery. Even women did not know about themselves. Far from showing power, ignorance made them suffer so much. Looking back, even men feel sorry for the suffering women had to go through then.

Parallel to other changes, there have been radical changes in relation to women in the last century. However, with men, even many women, resolutely guarding the status quo, getting education, as a start, was a big struggle for women. But then, once they gained education, their horizon of thought broadened. Women's empowerment thus began. In addition, although ‘Right of Man’- a produce of French revolution, did little for women, it certainly made them- especially the feminists, aware of their rights. Feminists struggled hard for women’s rights.

Following a long struggle, women are now able to express themselves in a coherent way and scientists are able to study them better. Books and journals are full of research papers dealing with them. Now we know that women are better off biologically. They survive birth trauma better, live longer and can withstand stress more. In addition, while their beauty helps them in beauty mad world, enhancing beauty, use of cosmetics, ornaments and colourful dresses give them an edge. Following sexual revolution, they have been able to use their sex power, as never before. In a competitive world, these and other factors matter a lot.

Unlike many centuries available to men, availing just a single century, they have shown success in so many fields. Their lack of success in politics is simply due to selection procedure followed by parties. Although seen to be empowerment of women, it is their exceptional power, which is clearly seen in the success statistics. The question is, will this success go on? Almost as an answer, like a man’s world of today, the book, ‘Women’s Power: Its Past, Its present, Its Future: Femocracy’’, makes a case for woman’s world in the future.

(CNN) -- When growing up, Monisha Kaltenborn wanted to go into space, but as the first female CEO of a Formula 1 team she's arguably reached greater heights.

Breaking into the male dominated sport wasn't the 40-year old's first ambition then, but the trained lawyer has embraced her trail-blazing position.

"It feels good and I'm a bit proud about that," said Kaltenborn.

"But again it's not my doing, it just so happened that I've done a lot to be in the position."

As a young girl Kaltenborn moved from her native India to Austria with her parents. Taking Austrian citizenship and studying law, Kaltenborn first became involved with motor racing in 1998 when she joined the Fritz Kaiser Group, a shareholder of the Red Bull Sauber F1 Team.

She went from looking after the team's legal and corporate affairs, to taking a place on the Sauber Group's management board in 2001. In 2010, she took over the business operations of the whole team.

It's interesting to see that how people take a while to get used to these kinds of questions to women.

Monisha Kaltenborn, CEO Sauber F1 Team

"Certainly it's not easy," she said of working in a hugely competitive industry and being the sport's most high-profile and influential woman.

Kaltenborn has been adjusting to her role during perhaps the team's most difficult period. After four years BMW pulled out of Formula 1 in 2009, leaving a large amount of uncertainty surrounding the development of Sauber's racing cars and among personnel.

"The biggest risk you have here is... people don't see the future in the team and then they want to leave and if you start losing your key people at that time, the whole process comes to a standstill. It's only later that you'll realize that insecurity amongst your personnel has a strong influence on the development of the car," she said.

"We had to make sure that we could keep the company going, secure funding."

With two young drivers, Kamui Kobayashi and rookie Sergio Perez, Sauber have had a number of points-scoring results this season and currently lie seventh in F1's constructors' world championship table.

In helping to steer the team to safety, as a team and business, Kaltenborn has also been involved in moving forwards the attitude to women in the sport.

"I think people, not the teams but others especially media, they don't ask a woman a question relating to performance," she said.

"The questions I get are normally very strategic questions about the company, the team, where F1 is going but never how the race was and what I feel about the drivers. But that's changing now. It's interesting to see how people take a while to get used to these kinds of questions to women."

When she set another first last year -- the first woman to attend an FIA press conference -- many men from other teams told her they were embarrassed that it had taken so long. Realizing the gender gap needed to be closed the sport's governing body, FIA, set up the Women and Motorsports Commission last year, in which Kaltenborn is taking a leading role.

"We are realizing that to a certain age there a lot of young girls driving in car series and then suddenly, when it gets into the next category, it drops off. A lot of that is to do with the whole social set up they have," she said.

Bernie Eccelestone, the head of Formula 1, has said a woman could be his successor, but Kaltenborn intends to be with Sauber for a long time to come, improving the team's performance. It's also possible a woman could be behind the wheel of an F1 car in the not-too-distant future. Maybe even with Sauber.

"From the physical side of it, I don't see why a woman cannot be in Formula 1," she said. [Source] [Monisha Bio]

During my financial fall, I spent many days and evenings at home. Of course, I was depressed, sad and scared about the future. I felt paralyzed with sheer terror of having to spend money (I did not have). I made excuses not to be with friends or family. Truly, I wanted to see them, but I felt crippled by not having money to pay my bills. So, instead, I spent hours reading and watching depressing or sad movies. It was a great way to feel sorry for myself without having to admit that I was crying for my situation.

As individuals, we handle our emotional issues differently. For some, it may be a crying jag against a loved one's shoulder, and for others, it is stoic silence. However, crying, or tear production, does assist in working through emotional problems. You may have heard of the expression, "To cry it out helps a person feel better." Scientific studies have found that after crying, people actually do feel better -both physically and physiologically-and feel worse when suppressing tears.

Culturally and socially we are conditioned to believe feeling sadness is wrong. It is important to be sad and to let it out. I know no one wants to sit and cry for themselves especially in front of other people. I emphasize, too, that both men and women should cry.

Many triggers worked for me, including television commercials about mistreated animals or starving children. Books or movies about loss of love can also trigger sadness. Remember Meggie's and Father Ralph's forbidden love in The Thorn Birds or Rick Schroder's performance as a young boy crying for his boxer father played by Jon Voight in The Champ?

One of the wonderful things about crying because of a book or movie, or even a commercial, is that you are crying for someone other than yourself. You may also recall a song from Sesame Street (written by Carol Hall) titled It's all right to cry? where she wrote that Feelings are such real things, and they change and change and change. How true!

Depression, despair, powerlessness, grief and fear are emotions which zap energy, drive and motivation. Most of us do not even want to get out of bed when we feel any of these. For me my will just seemed completely gone.

I believe there is a loss of self, loss of identity and loss of vision when you experience these emotions. You need to grieve for your financial loss.

Plenty of famous actors and celebrities have suffered depression, sometimes from financial losses, and other reasons. Elton John had a couple bouts of depression, from bulimia and drug use, and Princess Diana's death. Mike Wallace, of 60 Minutes, suffered severe depression after being sued for libel in 1984. Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, who walked on the moon in 1969, suffered depression after his return from the moon, and was hospitalized. Physicist Stephen Hawking was depressed after being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. Marie Osmond suffered from post-partum depression, as did Brooke Shields and Princess Diana.

Give yourself time to go through the stages of personal loss or grief: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. This mental emotional state does not allow us to allocate many resources for taking action. It is very important you allow yourself to just feel. This is the time where all you can expect is to maintain some semblance of your daily routine. Routine is key.

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A WRONG FEELING OR EMOTION.

Our feelings are intended to guide us towards a greater good. If you are in a state of depression or feel that you are suicidal please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, 1-800-273-TALK (8255), http://www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org.

I have counseled many people over the past 10 years, and even though you might be in this emotional state, remember motivational speaker Anthony Robbin's words: "If you are committed there is always a way."

If you were walking up the stairs towards your destination, but fell down a few steps to the bottom stair, presuming you were not hurt, you would get up, shake your head, and continue back up the stairs to your destination. It is in our nature to continue on. You may not want to hear that you have to try again, but it really is that simple.

A full recovery takes time, healing and counseling. No one can tell you exactly what it will take for you to regain your center, but you will.

DO NOT RUSH INTO ACTION

Take the time necessary to feel your sadness. Be patient with yourself, let go of the past. Release yourself of future expectations and allow yourself time to heal so you can take on those challenges when you are in a positive state of mind.

Successful people all have one thing in common - they are all extremely motivated to reach their goals because it takes a very strong personal drive to do what is hard in life and to be the best in your field. Self-Motivation is key to overcoming whatever obstacles lie between us and what we want in life. Here are my top 10 tips on how to overcome your own self doubt and be as successful as you can be.

This is the first of a two part series each highlighting five tips about how to improve your self-motivation and why it is important.

1. Set Your Goal
Step one in getting motivated is to set your goal. The more specific and detailed you are, the better! Don't just say, "I want to run my own business", specify what type of business, how much you want to turnover, where you'll be based how you'll recruit people. If you want to lose weight, then what is your target weight, what dress size, how many pounds do you need to lose? The more details you have, the more real you can make your goal!

2. Do Some Research.
Now you have detailed what you want to achieve it's time to find out some more about how you can actually achieve it. Make sure your goals are realistic, so if you want to lose weight check that the goal weight you have chosen is a healthy weight for you. If the goal you have set is to get a promotion or a new job, then how do you make sure that you are best placed for that next step; do you need to do any qualifications or training?

You might need to get resources in place to help you reach your goal, like buying new trainers if your goal is to run a marathon, or a new laptop if your goal is to start a blog.

3. Set a Timetable
From your research, you should have identified exactly what achieving your goal entails. The next step is to plan out how long you are going to give yourself to get there.

By setting a date by which you will have achieved your goal you are putting yourself under some pressure and focusing your attention on achieving each step along the way in a timely manner.

By drawing up a timetable you can also track your progress, ticking off smaller milestones on the way, which acts as a great self-motivation boost. If necessary you can adjust the steps along the way. Likewise, agreeing to certain steps along your journey makes it harder for you to back out of doing them, especially if there are activities that you will have to do with someone, or thing that you have had to pay for in advance.

4. Find a Role Model
Whatever your goal is, it's likely that someone has done the same thing, or something very similar before. Find yourself a role model who has completed a similar goal to you and find out how they overcame difficult tasks, what they enjoyed or what they struggled with.

Role models don't have to be people who you already know; you could choose a celebrity or someone you've read about in your local paper. The important thing is making the connection in your mind that someone, a real person whose experiences you can relate to, has completed this task before you. Believing your task is achievable is an important step in self-motivation.

5. Get Support
No matter how prepared and how committed you feel you are toward reaching your goals, having someone that you can share the highs and lows you might encounter along the way can really help you. Having someone to support you means that you don't have to rely solely on self-motivation.

You could find a support group on the internet, you may find a few interesting blogs to follow, or you may find a group that you can join locally. Even better, if they are trying to achieve the same things as you then you can support and encourage each other to reach your shared vision.

A Japanese company called Real-F has developed a technique for creating a 3-D photocopy of a person’s face.

Move over, Madame Tussauds.

A Japanese company called Real-F has developed a technique for creating a 3-D photocopy of a person’s face, PC World reports.

The company takes several photos from different angles, then prints the image on vinyl chloride resin stretched over a mold that matches the contours of the face, Techcrunch reports.

The masks are particularly lifelike because the technology “makes it possible to duplicate pores, eye's blood vessels and iris exactly the same as the originals,” Real-F says on its website.

“Realface” masks cost between $3,920 to $5,875 for the first mask, and $780 to $1,960 for additional copies, PC World reports.

The company also offers the “Realhead,” the 3-D mask on a bust.
