Four Harvard undergraduates were behind the invention with a great objective of helping to poor people of developing countries.

Indeed, it's a green project too... million of families who're living in developing world use kerosene lamps for lighting and do a large emission of carbon dioxide. With 15 minutes of playing, the ball can store electricity enough to lighten few LED bulbs for three hours.

Induction, that was the first technology. A coil which is moving near magmatic force generates electricity. Founders of the innovative soccer ball had used this theorem to develop the idea. But, the induction coil method wasn't great. So, they replaced it by a gyroscopic mechanism which is more convenient to produce electricity via a moving source such as a soccer ball.
